Wills, Trusts, Tax Planning

Back

We can assist you with making your Will which may be the single most important document that you may make in your lifetime. A recent survey revealed that an alarming number of people in the UK have still NOT made a Will.

With a Will you get to decide who does what, who gets what and who does not. Without a Will, your estate will be distributed in accordance with statutory rules which might mean that somebody you don’t want to inherit, could.

For example, your spouse (contrary to popular belief) would not receive your entire estate and your unmarried partner could end up with nothing. The future of your loved ones is too important to leave to chance. If you have not made a will, you should do so as soon as possible. If you have already made a Will, you should review it regularly and particularly at the following milestones of your life:

  • marriage
  • birth of children
  • house purchase
  • divorce or termination of a relationship

Wills and Trusts can be used in tax planning and wealth preservation. When making a Will tax planning should always be taken into account. We can advise on gifts and other tax planning opportunities (including Trusts), to include transferring assets from one generation to another in a structured way.

For example you may wish to place assets, which you no longer require, into a trust thereby reducing your wealth. You may also wish to place assets in trust to protect them from a spendthrift beneficiary or to ensure that a beneficiary does not inherit too much wealth too young in life.
